It's just like the present to be showing up like this

One of my favorite things to do while listening to music is to imagine the person that inspired the song, and what that person might wear. I found myself doing this today while listening to "Blood Bank" by Bon Iver (one of my favorite artists). I picture her to dress feminine, and also very airy to match the feel of the song. She would don herself in tons of lace and ruffles, but then top it off with some rugged booties. These choices would most definitely make Bon Iver sing, "I'm in love with your honor, I'm in love with your cheeks."

My world is filled with cheer

What a weekend! I feel like I spent no time relaxing at home, although last week that is all I wished to do over the break. Yesterday I spent the day with my mom for her birthday. We went out shopping, and then later we went out to dinner with the rest of my family and my grandparents. My Nana gave my mom a bag of pine cones to decorate with (really), and it reminded me how much cheer they can add to a room!

Now that Thanksgiving weekend is over, I am looking forward to dressing up for the parties that will come in December. I treated myself to a few items at the mall this weekend, including this and this (I plan to put a more conservative top underneath though). I figured you never know when an event that requires a festive outfit might come up, so I might as well just buy them both.

To complete my holiday looks, I want to buy a some new accessories. These earrings would add just the right amount of cheer to any outfit, and I love to wear green during the holidays instead of the usual red choice. I would love to buy these shoes to spice up my everyday looks for school, however they may not be the most practical choice. The holidays are a time for giving, but I also want to treat myself for the past year. I've gotten into college, survived my sister's wedding planning, and still managed to work and have fun with my friends through it all. I deserve to treat myself for working hard this year right?

Gobble Gobble

Happy Thanksgiving! I'm going to my aunt's house for a feast today, and I can't wait to eat massive amounts of food and to spend some quality time with my family. My sister made these last night, so I'm dreaming about adding those to my full stomach later in the night!

This year I have many things to be thankful for, but here's my top five:
1. All the hours that I've spent laughing with my friends and family this past year.
2. The fact that I'm going college next year... although where I'm going is yet to be determined.
3. My trip to Madrid over the summer with my best friends.
4. My wonderful family, including my two new brothers!
5. The delightful food that will soon by stuffed into my stomach, especially the mashed potatoes.

Happy Thanksgiving to all. I hope it's filled with friends, family and delicious food!

Ho Ho Hopefully

I am so happy to say that the holiday season is here! I went out shopping yesterday and I was absolutely delighted to see all the storefronts decorated with sparkles, fur, and of course, lots of green and red. There is just something about the holiday season that fills me with so much cheer, and of course I relish in every minute of it.

My iPod is filled with my massive amount of Christmas music because of my Christmas obsession. Somehow I find it makes Monday morning more bearable when I wake up to Dave Matthews singing "The Christmas Song" over my normal, year round music. Last year, my favorite addition to my collection was The Maine's "... And a Happy New Year - EP." Their cover of "Last Christmas" is simply wonderful, and their original songs are so clever that I always put them on repeat. This year I have yet to add any new songs to my collection, but I plan on buying the Glee Christmas CD.

I am SO excited for the upcoming Thanksgiving weekend, as the holidays will then be in full swing. I plan on doing some baking with my sister while she is home from college, hopefully making this to spice up our normal apple pie for our meal on Thursday. The thought of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and green beans is making my mouth water, even now. Thursday can't come soon enough!

Warmth of the Sand

Today was a particularly chilly day, and this cold weather had me thinking of how much I miss the warmth of summer and sunshine. This weeekend, I'm going to channel my inner summertime vibe.

Here's my top five ways to bring summer to the winter:
1. Listen to songs that warm your heart, such as "Sweet Thing" by Van Morrison, or "Better Together" by Jack Johnson.
2. Spice up your outfit with a fun scarf, seen here
3. Plan a getaway to a warm weather place, even if you know you won't be taking it. Thoughts of beaches will warm you up.
4. Cook up a summer inspired meal, such as this
5. Have a Latin music dance party and channel your inner Gloria Estefan

If all else fails, cozy up with a warm blanket, hot chocolate and a Christmas movie, and think warm thoughts.

I love the color of it all

This morning as I was getting dressed in a nearly all black outfit I came to a realization: the best way to get a pulled together look in a snap is to dress in monochromatic black. Whenever I’m in need of an outfit when I have little time, I always pull on a black top and black pants, and recently I’ve been topping it off with my black leather jacket. There’s something so alluring in donning all black. It makes me feel a little bit more of a bad girl than I actually am. I also love drawing in a pop of color to these outfits by adding in a bright colored scarf, belt or headband. These outfits never fail for dinner with friends, shopping on the weekend, or even a dreary Thursday at school. I can’t help but love the the dramatic effect a little color adds to an outfit.

The color of all of these  five will certainly make an impact:
1. A bright rinestone ring
2. A scarf in a contrasting tone
3. Rain boots to add color to a rainy day
4. Hold your gear in a fall-toned satchel
5. A slouchy hat to cover up dreary day hair

Now even on dark days you might be able to add some color to your outfit to spice the day up, but you still need to indulge in some dreary music to bring you out of that funk. My personal favorite for these days is "My Heart" by Paramore. Not only will it help brighten a dreary day by letting you belt out your feelings, but it will also help you channel the inner rebel of the black outfit, and that would be just what the doctor ordered.

Hello Sunshine, Come Into My Life

Welcome to Lavender Delight! My senior year in high school is underway; it has become time for me to focus on aspects of my life that I love: fashion, cooking, and music. In today’s world, there is no better way to do this than to create a blog about it. I am inspired by magazines, storefronts, art, and other blogs. I believe that every day should include a little bit of what you love, and for me that’s lavender, in all forms fashion, food and art.

So it's time to say hello to Lavender Delight, I hope to bring a little ray of sunshine to your life.
